FAIRMONT, W.Va. — State police say a worker died and two others were injured after they were knocked off a bridge by a large crane at an Interstate 79 construction site Tuesday morning near the Monongalia-Marion county line.
The investigating trooper said a heavy crane being used on the bridge construction site malfunctioned at 9:45 a.m. and caused concrete barriers to strike the three workers knocking them off the bridge.
One worker, identified as Mickey Swisher, 30, of Morgantown, died at the scene. The two other workers are hospitalized.
An investigation is continuing.
