Morgantown High School cleared, working lockdown lifted

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Just before 10 a.m. Thursday the Morgantown High School was placed on a working lockdown due to a threat directed at the school.

At 9:48 a.m. this morning school officials sent the following message to parents and guardians:

Dear Morgantown High School Families, Morgantown High School has received an unsubstantiated anonymous threat directed toward the school. As a precautionary measure, the school is currently in a working lockdown while law enforcement conducts a thorough assessment of the building. The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. School administration is working closely with law enforcement and following established safety protocols. We will provide additional information as it becomes available and when it is appropriate to do so. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work to ensure the safety of our school community.

No injuries or incidents have been reported.

No other information has been released.

Just before noon officials released the following statement to parents and guardians:

This is Principal Mihalko with an update regarding the safety concern reported earlier. Morgantown High School has been thoroughly assessed and cleared by law enforcement. The campus has returned to normal operations, and students and staff are continuing their school day as usual. A law enforcement presence will remain on campus throughout the day as an additional safety measure. Again, thank you for your patience and cooperation while we worked with law enforcement to ensure the safety of our school community.
