MARTINSURG, W.Va. — While a Powerball ticket in Berkeley County handed out $50,000 in this weekend’s drawing, the West Virginia Lottery’s overall jackpot continues to climb near $800 million.
The $50,000 Powerball ticket was purchased at the Hammonds Mill Road Walmart in Martinsburg. According to the lottery, the ticket had four matching numbers, along with the Powerball, to ascend to the $50,000 “prize tier.” However, the lottery noted the “Power Play option” was not selected, which increase “non-jackpot prizes.”
“We’ve seen this jackpot gain momentum here recently, and it always makes for an exciting time in our industry,” Acting Lottery Director David Bradley said. “All it takes is one ticket to win, but we encourage everyone to play responsibly.”
The Powerball jackpot hasn’t been won since mid-August. It’s now at $793 million, with an estimated cash value of $339.9 million.
The lottery said the current string, 35 consecutive drawings in the current jackpot run, is one of the tenth-longest all time for Powerball jackpots.
The lottery said the Powerball has been won six times this year.
Meanwhile, a lucky winner in the Lottery’s digital lottery platform, iPLAY, has claimed the “largest instant win” in the program’s two-year history. The lottery said that the winner played Big Crush Multiplier for the prize.
“This is an incredible milestone for our iLottery program,” Bradley said. “We have had big winners on draw games purchased through the app, but this is the largest win overall for iLottery since we started. We’re excited for our winner and happy for him, but we want to remind everyone how critical it is to play smart and responsibly.”
