Wood County jury convicts man of murdering, hiding body of girlfriend in 2014; do not recommend mercy

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — A 12-member jury has convicted a Wood County man on both charges he faced in his girlfriend’s 2014 murder.

Gregory Casto

The jury found Gregory Casto, 57, guilty on Monday of first-degree murder and concealment of a dead body following last week’s murder trial. Casto was charged last year, 11 years after Cindy Ball Dilo went missing in Parkersburg.

Her body was found in a shallow grave in rural Wirt County in 2014 by some hunters.

Witnesses testified Friday of a rocky relationship between Casto and Ball. Some of the witnesses told the jury of seeing Casto point a gun at Ball on different occasions.

The jury did not recommend mercy for Casto. He’ll face a lifetime in prison with no chance for parole when he’s sentenced on January 15 at 9 a.m.
