CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — Jefferson County is one of the counties in West Virginia where the blue wave was evident earlier this week.

Democrats were elected to three of four House of Delegate seats knocking out incumbent Republicans.
Jefferson County Democratic Association President Troy Miller said the races weren’t really that close.
“Those were decisive margins that are candidates won by and there’s no single factor you can come up to explain those decisive margins, but it has no small part to do with who the opponents were and the rejection of (Governor) Patrick Morrisey and the West Virginia’s GOP agenda as seen here in the Eastern Panhandle,” Miller said Thursday on WEPM Radio’s Panhandle Live show.
Democrats Lucia Valentine, Regina Dyer and Jenny Thacker all won House seats over incumbents Chris Anders, Wayne Clark and Bill Ridenour. Del. Joe Funkhouser was the only Jefferson County delegate to survive. He defeated Marta Beck by 483 votes.
Miller said he’s pleased with the make up of the new delegation.
“There’s 10 new women being sent down to Charleston and three of them are from Jefferson County and two of our delegates going down there are mothers,” Miller said. “I think that is a very important representation increase for people who need it the most from our legislature.”
Miller said this week’s election is a building block for 2028.
“We must continue to knock on doors. We must continue to call. We must continue to be in touch with our neighbors and really make sure that people understand that there’s no single election remedy to any of our ills, we must continue building,” Miller said.
