Customers of Mountaineer Gas may notice a higher rate for service when December arrives.
The state Public Service Commission has approved a settlement to the company’s latest rate case. The approved agreement allows for higher base rates which are expected to generate about $17.3 Million more revenue annually for the company. However a separate charge for infrastructure improvement will be reduced to help offset the increases.
Residential customers will see their fixed monthly charge hold steady, but the rate charged for gas use will increase. The PSC’s settlement did not suggest how much the new rate would cost the average residential customers. Mountaineer’s original proposal estimated the rate hike to cost about $9.63 more a month on the average customer’s bill.
The company serves more than 220,000 customers across West Virginia. Another stipulation of the rate agreement requires the company to credit close to $114,000 back to active customer accounts which were impacted by a billing errort. The credits are to be issued within two weeks of the order and applied to the customers’ next bills.
The agreement also stipulated Mountaineer Gas may not file another base rate case until after February 1, 2028.
