Sears closing store at Mercer Mall

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — Sears has announced plans to close its store at the Mercer Mall in Bluefield Dec. 7.

The store’s 64 workers were notified Wednesday. They will be given a chance to apply for openings at other Sears and Kmart stores in the area. Severance pay will also be available for some workers.

The closure includes the Sears Auto Center at the same site.

The company said it needs to reduce expenses and accelerate the transformation of its business model.
