2 killed in separate weekend crashes in WV

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — Two people are dead following two separate crashes in West Virginia over the weekend.

A woman was killed Sunday in a traffic accident along Interstate 77 in Wood County.

It was a single vehicle accident. It happened near Mineral Wells just before 2 p.m.

Authorities said Zella Keen, 65, of Gassaway, was traveling south on I-77 when she lost control of her vehicle, went across the median, turned over a few times and came to rest in the northbound lane. Keen died as a result of her injuries.

A passenger, Patrica Desamtos, 57, of Gassaway, sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the vehicle might have lost control due to hydroplaning in wet conditions.

In McDowell County, one person was killed in an ATV wreck. It happened at around 5 p.m. Saturday on the Hatfield-McCoy Trail in Crumpler.

It was the first ATV fatality of the year in the area.

The victim’s name has not been released. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
