Chief Logan State Park Incurs Heavy Damage

A massive undertaking is underway now to clean up the tree limbs and trunks that litter the landscape at Chief Logan State Park after this weekend’s massive snowstorm.

"We’re estimating that there’s well over a hundred trees that have fallen in and around the park area," says State Parks District Administrator Paul Redford.

Trees fell on picnic shelters, a storage facility, and even elements of the annual Christmas in the Park lights display. The weather forced that tradition to be canceled this year.

Redford said in many cases, it seemed like the trees came down in a domino effect. Roads were also closed due to the massive amount snows. Crews are still working to clean up the mess. The good news is that many of the other state parks have offered assistance to the staff at Chief Logan.

"Many of the superintendents at the other state parks have been sharing their equipment and their men and their resources to come to the aid of the superintendent at Chief Logan," Redford explain

At this point in time, Redford says it’s hard to estimate the cost of the damage. He goes on to say that once the clean up is completed, guests at Chief Logan will barely notice the changes left behind by this weather event.
