New state Supreme Court Justice Allen Loughry says he’s proof that a clean campaign works. The Tucker County native was sworn-in Friday before a large crowd in the High Court’s chambers.
“I believe the people of West Virginia responded to that positive message and I’m excited to move forward,” Loughry said.
Loughry has been a clerk with the state Supreme Court for the past 10 years so he doesn’t think he’ll have a difficult time adjusting.
“This has to be one of the easiest transitions in the history of the state of West Virginia,” he said. “I have a wonderful relationship with the five justices of the Court..and the people of the Court.”
Loughry finished second to Justice Robin Davis in the November General Election. They were both elected to 12-year terms.
Loughry says he’ll ask questions from the bench when necessary and also be very active behind the scenes with the cases that come before the High Court.
Loughry’s term beings Jan. 1.
