West Virginia’s state fruit is now featured on a U.S. Postal Service stamp. Postcard stamps featuring the Golden Delicious apple were available beginning Thursday.
Postal Service spokesman Mark Saunders says the agency chose four apples to honor with stamps, a new offering from the postal service.
“We love West Virginia and what better way to remind people of that than to share this Golden Delicious apple, the state fruit with everybody,” Saunders said.
The 33-cent Apples Postcard stamps feature the Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Baldwin and Northern Spy apples.
“We selected them because apples seem popular,” Saunders said. “We wanted to offer a variety of colorful apples to these series of stamps.”
The Golden Delicious was made the state fruit in 1995. The apple got its start in Clay County which also hosts the Apple Festival each fall.
