New academic program coming soon at Shepherd

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — Shepherd University will be offering its first-ever doctorate program later this year.

University President Dr. Suzanne Shipley said they are only steps away from being able to offer a doctorate of nursing practice to students.

“We’ve had the visit, we got a great report. We’re now allowed to recruit and enroll students and then in June we’re hopeful that final report comes through,” Shipley said.

Shipley said the idea to create a doctorate got started about three years ago after a discussion with area hospitals and the university’s nursing faculty.
