Martinsburg police chief returns to ranks

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Police Department Chief Kevin Miller will be stepping down from his post and returning to the rank of lieutenant effective June 12.

Martinsburg Councilman Jason Baker said that Miller made the request himself.

Baker said Miller has served the city and department well especially in terms of some recent headlines made after five city police officers shot and killed Wayne Jones in March 2013.

Baker said the retirement of two Martinsburg Police Department lieutenants means that there is an open position.

Martinsburg City Council will hold a special meeting next Tuesday to discuss the process of replacing Miller.
