Mother of kidnapping suspects arrested, charged

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. – The mother of two Shepherdstown men accused of kidnapping an amputee earlier this month faces numerous charges herself after police arrested her Thursday at her Martinsburg home.

Charges against Gail Shanton, 57, include one felony count of burglary, one felony count of abduction, and conspiracy charges in connection with an alleged July 14 kidnapping of a Darkesville, W.Va. man.

Her sons, Antonio Norman Shanton, 23, and Robert Anthony Shanton, 32, were arraigned earlier this month on multiple charges related to the incident.

The Journal reports all three are currently being held without bond at the Eastern Regional Jail.
