Police identify man killed in I-81 crash south of Martinsburg

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Authorities have identified a Berkeley County man who died in a crash on Interstate 81 yesterday as 37-year-old Daniel Raney.

Raney was travelling southbound on I-81 when a large box truck traveled across the median of the highway from the northbound lanes and struck his car.

Raney was air lifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va. where he was pronounced dead.

The accident occurred shortly after the 11:30 yesterday morning near Exit 8 for Tabler Station Road.

The crash shut down the southbound lanes of I-81 for at least an hour.
