Several streets near downtown Beckley flooded, after Wednesday’s storms

BECKLEY, W.Va. — Parts of Beckley and the surrounding area were under water, following heavy downpours Wednesday evening.

Flooded streets were reported on Nebraska Avenue, Robert C. Byrd Drive, Harper Road, Klaus Street, Eisenhower Drive, and Ewart Avenue.

Forecasters said more thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening, which could cause additional flooding, especially in areas where the ground is already saturated.

A flash flood watch issued by the National Weather Service remains in effect for parts of southern and central West Virginia, through Friday night.
