Capito says voter turnout key for GOP candidates Tuesday

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Pizza and wings were on the menu Monday evening at a Republican rally in the Charleston led by U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito.

“Get out and vote,” Capito told the crowd of supporters gathered at Elk City Pizza on West Washington Street.

Capito was joined by several Kanawha County candidates including state senators Tom Takubo and Anne Charnock and delegates Tristan Leavitt, Walt Hall and Dana Ferrell along with county commission candidate Jared Page.

Capito, who is seeking her third six-year term in the Senate Tuesday, told reporters turnout by Republicans will be key Tuesday. She said there’s intensity on the “other side.”

“It’s definitely real,” Capito said. “Always in a midterm with a president there’s a backlash with intensity. It’s either the backlash toward the party in power or against the incumbent, ‘let’s try something new.'”

The two-term senator said she’s taken nothing for granted knowing how midterms can be.

“I definitely feel that,” she said. “That’s why I’ve had an active campaign for a year, worked hard, got a great team working for it. I’ve raised the money and spent the money to remind people of things they don’t realize.”

Capito faces Democrat Rachel Fetty Anderson and Constitution Party nominee Marshall Wilson Tuesday.

Capito is scheduled to vote at her precinct in Charleston Tuesday morning.

Polls open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m.

MetroNews Decision 2026 begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday on radio stations across the state and on the MetroNews Television app.
