CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Officials with the state Department of Health and Human Resources reported 215 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in West Virginia and one additional virus death, a 71-year-old woman from Kanawha County, in the agency’s Sunday report.
Altogether, there were 4,579 active COVID-19 cases statewide, according to DHHR.
The cumulative infection rate remained the same as Saturday’s at 2.78 percent.
The daily infection rate was up to 2.71 percent from the Saturday rate of 1.7 percent.
In all, 173 people were said to be hospitalized because of COVID-19 with 58 of those people in intensive care.
Community COVID-19 testing was available Sunday at no cost in several West Virginia counties.
