Impression Products, Inc, sells, leases and services printers and copiers. Remanufacturing over 20,000 printer cartridges a month from their Charleston, WV compound that ship all over the world.
Eric Smith, owner and CEO, began working in his family-owned business after high school, taking over the business in 1996.
Because of Eric’s strong desire to provide superior services and supplies at affordable prices, he worked long hours, sacrificing vacations and having virtually no personal life, to build the company into the successful, well-respected business it is today.
Impression Products made national headlines from 2012 through 2017 in a David v. Goliath situation, when it was the only company willing to take on an international, multi-billion-dollar corporation in a patent dispute.
For over 25 years, Impression Products have been taking waste products that are empty and spent and re-manufacturing them back into a higher quality product than they were originally, yet at a much better cost.
In today’s world, “recycle” and “reuse” are words that are shouted from the mountain tops, plastered on billboards, t-shirts and bumper stickers. For years, polished ad campaigns touting the benefits of recycling have been pumped into our homes, cars, mobile phones and computers.
Lexmark didn’t get the message.
Lexmark sued 50 companies that were using empty cartridges imported from Canada. All settled except for Impression Products – they faced the giant, alone.
This led to a landslide victory against the giant company, and the decision of the United States Supreme Court has had positive, far-reaching results for the ownership rights of consumers worldwide.
Smith said he’s proud that the Supreme Court victory will allow others in all industries as well as consumers, to continue re-using products.
“Because of Impression Products everybody now has a choice when they go into any supermarket, drug store, any national chain — you have the right now to buy any product you want to buy. Once you buy it, it’s yours. The entity over that product doesn’t control you. They don’t control the product. Once you spend your money that product is yours now. And that’s because we stood up and fought.”
