One dead and one in custody after Boone County shooting

WHITESVILLE, W.Va. — A fight at a Boone County establishment Thursday night escalated into gunfire and now one man is dead and a second in jail.

State Police were called to Terry’s Café in Whitesville around 11:30 pm. Thursday. There they found Jeremy Peters, 41, of Whitesville dead of a gunshot wound. Investigators said Peters had gotten into an argument with another individual identified as Kevin Dickens, 53, of Rock Creek. The altercation escalated into a physical fight and then  into gunfire.

State Police said  Dickens fled the scene soon after the shooting. He was located early Thursday morning in Raleigh County where he was taken into custody by members of the State Police Special Response Team.

Dickens is in the Southwestern Regional Jail without bond facing a charge of murder. The investigation continues.
