CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Active COVID-19 cases in West Virginia remain below 400, according to the latest report from the state Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR).
The agency confirmed 376 active cases on Friday. Active cases have been below the 400 mark since Sunday. Totals have not been this low since the early stages of the pandemic in 2020.
Calhoun, Clay, Doddridge, Gilmer, and Ritchie counties reported zero active cases on Friday. Several other counties reported only one case. All 55 counties in the state are in the green, the lowest transmission, on the county alert map.

COVID-19 hospitalizations sit at 158 on Friday with 46 patients in the ICU and 18 on a vent. All three hospital categories are seeing downward trend in totals.
Four deaths were reported on Friday including an 80-year old female from Mason County, a 75-year old male from Hardy County, an 89-year old female from Berkeley County, and a 74-year old male from Wetzel County. The statewide death total due to the virus is 6.835.
“As West Virginians, we must not tire of preventive measures that ensure the health and safety of our friends, family and neighbors,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary in a release. “I urge you to get vaccinated and boosted.”
