Active COVID-19 cases in West Virginia down to nearly 300

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Active COVID-19 case total in West Virginia once again fell on Monday, according to the state Dpeartment of Health and Human Resources (DHHR).

The DHHR dashboard shows 303 active COVID-19 cases statewide, which is a total last seen in the first months of the pandemic. Last week’s active totals hovered around 400.

Calhoun, Doddridge, Gilmer, Grant, and Summers counties all reported no active cases on Monday. Several other counties reporting only a couple active cases.

COVID-19 hospitalizations sit at 141 with 39 paitents in the ICU and 20 on a vent. All three of those figures continue a downward trend. Late July 2021 was the last time hospitalization figures were that low.

DHHR has confirmed the deaths of a 55-year old male from Kanawha County, an 82-year old male from Jefferson County, a 66-year old male from Wood County, and a 78-year old male from Webster County. The statewide death total due to COVID-19 is now 6,839 deaths.

“COVID-19 has hurt far too many West Virginia families,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary in a release. “I urge everyone to schedule a COVID-19 vaccine and booster shot as soon as possible.”
