West Virginia MetroNews has been honored with five Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association.
The awards were for:
- overall excellence for WCHS Radio and West Virginia MetroNews,
- newscast for “The Morning News,”
- news series for stories by Carrie Hodousek reflecting on the 20-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks,
- digital for a range of stories on the MetroNews website
- and continuing coverage for reporting on the ice storm that hit Cabell and Wayne counties.
Those entries will now be judged against winners from other regions in the same categories. Winners of the national Murrow awards will be announced in a few months.
“Receiving recognition in five different categories is truly a testament to the professionalism and the outstanding work that the news staff at WVRC Media and MetroNews provide,” said George Pelletier, president and chief executive for WVRC Media, the parent company for MetroNews and its associated radio network.
“Their commitment to excellence in broadcasting is something that every member of our team strives for every day. We are all so proud of the work that the news team does.”
The news team has now won 35 Edward R. Murrow Regional Awards since 2002. MetroNews has won four Edward R. Murrow National Awards.
“We have an excellent team that works hard to inform West Virginians with what’s happening across the state,” said Jeff Jenkins, chief of the news division for West Virginia MetroNews. “We would like to thank RTDNA for its recognition.”
The MetroNews team includes reporters/anchors Jenkins, Chris Lawrence, Brad McElhinny, Carrie Hodousek, Alex Thomas and Jake Flatley.
