Capito, Miller respond to SOTU from President Biden

WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Joe Biden delivered his second State of the Union address last night to the 118th Congress and got similar responses from both state and U.S. representatives of West Virginia.

U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito hoped the President would put politics aside and focus on the issues she calls as critical to American families during his address in the house chamber.

However, Capito said Biden did not accomplish the need of togetherness he so often seeks from lawmakers and the American people.

“While the president is busy taking a premature and undeserved victory lap, families in West Virginia and America are struggling at every turn because many of the policies and priorities of this administration have made the American Dream harder to attain,” Capito said.

Senator Capito believes she knows what families want to see happening in this country, opposite of what the President was highlighting.

“American families want a secure southern border, they want reliable infrastructure, they want energy independence, and they want to be able to afford to pursue the American dream,” she said. “The president did not lay out a clear and convincing plan to achieve this.”

Congresswoman Carol Miller released a statement following the President’s state of the union, saying she was let down in the speech.

“His focus was not on how to help struggling families and small businesses across the country,” said Miller.

The congresswoman hinted that the reason the American people voted for a republican house majority was because of alleged failed policies from the Biden administration.

“Instead of wasting your money through more taxes or government programs, Republicans in the House of Representatives are working on policies that help real Americans,” Miller said.
