LOGAN, W.Va. — A man who shot is mother in a Logan County nursing home is bound for prison.
James Biddell, 44, of Chillicothe, Ohio was sentenced this week for attempted murder and wanton endangerment. Judge Kelly Codispotti sentenced Biddell to a term of 3 to 15 years in prison for the attempted murder charge and another five-years for the wanton endangerment. He pleaded guilty to both charges. The sentences will run consecutively.
Biddell visited his mother, Tomalene Greene, 67, at the Trinity Healthcare Nursing Home in Henlawson, W.Va. in October 2023. During the visit he pulled a gun and shot the woman in the chest. He immediately fled the scene. West Virginia State Police caught him on U.S. Route 119 near Chapmanville about eight to ten miles away a short time later.
Greene survived the shooting. Police filed the wanton endangerment charge because there was a roommate in the room at the time. The roommate was the only witness. Nursing home employees say there was no disturbance or argument which led up to the shooting. A motive isn’t known.
