Rice named vicar general and moderator of the curia of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Father John Rice has been named as vicar general and moderator of the curia of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston.

The vicar general is the second-highest ranking in the Diocese, only after the bishop.

Rice will follow Monsignor Joseph Peterson, who recently passed away. Peterson served as vicar general for the Diocese for over a year.

Rice has been a priest for the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston since 2003, working in a multitude of rolls, most recently at St. Francis Xavier in Parkersburg and St. Monica Parish in Lubeck. Rice had served in those rolls since 2013.

The change will be effective on October 22.
