BECKLEY, W.Va. — A Fayette County man faces up to life in prison after being among four people charged with conspiracy to distribute an illicit drug.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia, Phillip Gray, 41, of Oak Hill pleaded guilty Thursday before a federal grand jury to distribute methamphetamine.
The attorney’s office said Gray admitted to working with others to distribute the drug in southern West Virginia for over a year, and worked with one co-conspirator to sell a total of 446 grams of meth to a confidential informant at an Oak Hill trailer park in November 2022 for $2,600.
Federal prosecutors said a similar transaction occurred in February 2023.
Prosecutors said three other people were also indicted by a grand jury for their roles in the drug trafficking conspiracy, including Gray’s co-defendant Daemien Thompson, 39, John Gray, 39, who are both also of Oak Hill, as well as Leondus Whittenburg, 43, of Beckley.
They said John Gray and Whittenburg have both pleaded guilty to distributing the meth and are awaiting sentencing.
Sentencing for Phillip Gray is set for August 8. He faces 10 years to life in prison, at least five years of supervised release, and a $10 million fine.
