Gov. Patrick Morrisey spotlighted West Virginia’s upcoming sales tax holiday, which starts Friday.
The governor appeared at Meadowbrook Mall in Bridgeport to draw attention to the sales tax holiday deals.

“The upcoming sales tax holiday period is a chance to put hard-earned dollars back into the pockets of West Virginians,” Morrisey said.
“I hope everyone gets the chance to get out, support local businesses, and get ready for the upcoming school year.”
West Virginians will save an estimated $3.4 million over the four-day tax holiday period, according to Morrisey’s administration.
The governor encouraged families to take advantage of the savings this weekend and promoted the opportunity to support local businesses.
From Friday until Monday at midnight, there will be no sales tax on any item of clothing costing $125 or less, school instructional materials priced at $20 or less and school supplies priced at $50 or less, according to the West Virginia Tax Division.
Personal computers, laptops and tablets priced at $500 or less are also tax-free, along with select sports equipment that costs $150 or less.
There is no limit on the amount of the total purchase. The qualification is determined by each individual item.
Eligible clothing items include, but are not limited to, purchases such as blouses, bathing suits, ear muffs, formal wear, girdles, gloves and mittens, lab coats, pants, steel-toed shoes, sneakers and wedding apparel.
The tax division has outlined some items, like sports or recreational equipment, not included in the sales tax holiday.
Eligible school supplies include purchases like binders, blackboard chalk, book bags, crayons, highlighters, legal pads, lunch boxes and rulers.
“School supplies” does not include any item purchased for use in a trade or business, according to the tax department.
