CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — A collision between a car and a semi on U.S. Route 119 in Logan County Thursday claimed a life.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Department reported the crash occurred around 8:30 a.m. near the intersection of Corridor G and Mecca Road near Chapmanville. Deputies arrived to find the car was crushed after crossing a median and hitting the tractor-trailer head on. The semi was hauling cinderblocks and lost its load strewn for several hundred yards across all four lanes of the roadway.

The driver of the passenger vehicle, Justin McMillion, 35, of Greenbrier, W.Va. was travelling in the southbound lanes and lost control. Investigators indicated he crossed the median and hit the semi. The truck was being operated by Austin Triplett, 22, of Jenkins, Ky. McMillion was dead at the scene. Triplett was transported to the Logan Regional Medical Center where he’s under observation for injuries.
U.S. Route 119 was closed as crews from the West Virginia Division of Highways worked to remove the debris. Traffic in both directions is being detoured onto Old Logan Road and back onto the highway near the Fountain Place Shopping Center. It’s unclear how long the highway will be shut down.
An investigation into the crash continues.
