Superintendent: Musselman High teacher on administrative leave following criminal charges

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Berkeley County School Superintendent Ryan Saxe released a statement Wednesday evening regarding the arrest of a staff member at one of their schools.

Saxe said officials were made aware of serious allegations against Musselman High School teacher Hunter Reed. He was placed on administrative leave. Police have now charged him with soliciting a minor by other means than a computer.

“As Superintendent, I am deeply disturbed by the allegation involving a staff member at Musselman High School. I want to assure our families that we are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness. Every student deserves to feel safe and protected while as school, and we will not tolerate any behavior that compromises that trust,” Saxe said. “We are fully cooperating with law enforcement and will take every necessary step to ensure accountability and student safety.”

Saxe said he released the statement because he wanted to reaffirm the importance the school district places on maintaining a safe learning environment for their students and staff members.
