Bond denied in Wood County murder case

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — A man accused in a 2014 murder in Wood County will remain in jail without bail.

Gregory Casto

Wood County Circuit Judge J.D. Beane rejected a motion from an attorney representing Gregory Casto in a hearing held Monday morning in Parkersburg.

Casto was charged on Oct. 21 with the death of Cindy Ball Dilo.

Dilo’s body was found by some hunters in a shallow grave in rural Wirt County in 2014. Wood County Prosecutor Pat Lefebure said investigators were recently able to link Casto to the murder.

Investigators believe Casto killed Dilo in Wood County, but dumped her body in the rural area to hide the crime. The property where she was discovered did not belong to Casto or anyone connnected to him.

“It was just a very rural area out in Wirt County,” Lefebure told MetroNews last month.

Casto was an early suspect but investigators had to be patient, Lefebure said.

Casto’s attorney unsuccessfully argued for bond Monday, saying his client was not a flight risk and wanted to help his attorney prepare his defense.
