WASHINGTON, D.C. — State Adjutant General Jim Seward says Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe is getting better in a Washington, D.C. hospital after being shot the day before Thanksgiving in the nation’s capital.
Seward provided an update for President Donald Trump at a White House event Sunday. He shared something that happened Saturday.
“When a nurse was leaving shift (Saturday) she said ‘Goodbye Andrew!’ and he’s got a big mitt this left hand because if he didn’t he would remove every cord on his body, but he raised his mitt and did this a couple of times,” Seward said, making a hand motion.
Today @POTUS welcomed MG @jimdseward who provided an update on SSgt Andrew Wolfe.
“He’s not speaking to us yet, but our prayer is that every day there’ll be another miracle and more progress to inspire the staff and inspire the prayers around the country,” Seward said. pic.twitter.com/3yQgwoQftZ

Seward said he also had some non-verbal communication with Wolfe, 25.
“‘Andrew, you’re mom tells me your a stinker,'” Seward shared at the White House event. “He kind of gave me that side eye look and went like this.”
Seward told President Trump and others that Andrew is not speaking yet but the prayer is that every day they’ll be another miracle.
The White House update came a day after Seward and his wife Leslie appeared in a video with Wolfe’s mother, Melody Wolfe.
“Andrew is being active, more alert, sedation has come off, they are scaling back on his pain medication,” Wolfe said. “He is very active.”

She said her son has scratched his forehead several times.
“He’s coming along well, surpassing expectations, all of the prayers you are giving they are working and we’re seeing that miracle happen in that hospital bed right now. We are every grateful for your support,” Melody Wolfe said.
In the video, she asked that if you see a National Guard soldier on the streets of Washington, D.C. to smile at them and offer them a kind word.
The West Virginia National Guard did announce over the weekend that services for Army Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, who died from injuries suffered in the same shooting, would be private in nature.
