Bluefield fugitive captured in Clarksburg Monday

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. –A Bluefield man was apprehended in Clarksburg Monday on multiple felonies.

Gary Eugene Wilson, 50, was arrested by the US Marshals Service near 215 W. Main Street. He was wanted by Hinton Police for attempting to commit a felony punishable by life in prison, wanton endangerment with a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, and escape from custody.

Wilson allegedly traveled to a home in Hinton on December 16 and fired multiple rounds into a residence while the occupants were inside. It is also alleged that he fled the scene in a white truck.

Hinton Police, along with Summers County Sheriff’s Office, and the West Virginia State Police were able to locate Wilson and the truck while they were conducting a search warrant on Sand Knob Road in Nimitz. Officials also recovered a firearm from the truck during a search.

After Wilson was brought back to the Hinton Police Department, he allegedly slipped from his restraints and fled from the office. A search ensued but he was able to avoid capture.

Wilson was processed by the Clarksburg Police Department and will appear in Harrison County court before he returns back to Summers County.
