DMV warns residents of text scams demanding payment

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –The state Division of Motor Vehicles warned residents Wednesday of text scams claiming to be DMV personnel and demanding payment.

A release from the DMV stated scammers can use several different tactics including:

-Setting urgent deadlines
-Using language, logos, or images similar to DMV content
-Using texts to request money
-Playing on fear

The DMV reminds citizens they would never request payment via text, will let you know of DMV deadlines, and will never seek to make the person feel alarmed.

DMV officials urge residents to contact their local office or call 800-642-9066 if you believe the text, is a scam.
