KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. —
The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office recognized its 2025 Deputy of the Year during Thursday’s meeting of the Kanawha County Commission.
The honor went to Cpl. Treavor Dubiel for his dedication and commitment to the department.
According to a release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, Dubiel served 112 warrants in 2025 and ranked among the department’s leaders in arrests, reports and calls for service. The release also noted that as a field training officer, he leads by example and sets a strong standard for new deputies.
Seven deputies were nominated for the award by their supervisors within the department.
Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff Joey Crawford said that while he couldn’t select all of the nominees, each of them was deserving of the award because of the work they do every day.
“They go out tirelessly every day and do a great job and serve the citizens the best, I think probably anywhere in the state, I know there’s maybe some debate over that, but I’ll stand up and make that argument every time,” Crawford said. ” I think we’re very blessed and fortunate to have the type and caliber of people serving us each and every day.”
He said that once he reviewed the nominees, it was a difficult decision to make.
“We took a lot into consideration and obviously it was a very difficult decision,” he said. “They bring everything to me, and I have to sit down, and I didn’t take it lightly, I mean I had to go and look at some, some of the stats, and some of the things of what all y’all have done, and it was a very difficult decision for me.”
After naming Dubiel, Crawford thanked all of the nominees for their service to the community.
“Thank you all so, thank you all very much for what you do, it’s very much appreciated, not just by me, but the people behind you,” he said. “We get a lot of good feedback on everything that you all are doing and we appreciate it.”
