CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Vandalia Health picked up a check of just more than $354,000 from state Treasurer Larry Pack Tuesday as part of the treasurer’s office unclaimed property fund.
Pack said the money comes from more than 1,100 accounts that owed money to Vandalia system hospitals.
“The money came to us from a lot of different accounts and a lot of different directions so our team’s been working with Vandalia’s team over the last several months to get it back into their hands,” Pack said.
Vandalia Health President and CEO David Ramsey said he was surprised with how large the check was. He said they’ll use it to help with charity care.
“It will go to great use here. We take care of everybody. We don’t charge people if they can’t pay. We’re glad to have the help from the state,” Ramsey said.
Pack said a lot of time it’s money that just didn’t get into the right account. He said it’s a good reminder for everyone to search their name in the unclaimed property fund.
“We do the public presentations to bring awareness. We have over $500 million of West Virginians’ money that we want to give back,” Pack said.
