BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — A Beverly woman suspected of driving the wrong-way on U.S. Route 33 in Upshur County was arrested by deputies early Thursday morning.
Deputies with the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department Stephanie Sue May, 42, was spotted driving west in the eastbound lanes around 1:42 a.m. and made contact with another vehicle.
After the contact, deputies said May continued to drive with one damaged wheel for about a mile before she stopped at the bottom of Buckhannon Mountain.
Once stopped, May tried unsuccessfully to get on the back of a motorcycle nearby.
She was later transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital by Upshur County EMS.
Deputies said admitted to using heroin before the collision and paraphernalia was found in her shirt pocket.
May has been charged with DUI causing serious injury, leaving the scene with serious injury, reckless driving, possession of meth and is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
