U.S. Marshals Service asking for help in finding wanted Wood County sex offender, offer $5,000 reward

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The search continues for a wanted Wood County sex offender and U.S. Marshals are offering a reward for information in the case.

The U.S. Marshals Service for Southern West Virginia is searching for Gabriel Hargus, 49, of Mineral Wells. He allegedly failed to properly register as a sex offender and violated his parole.

Authorities are offering a $5,000 reward for tips that lead to Hargus’ arrest. Hargus was previously convicted on charges of possession of child pornography and sexual abuse against a minor. The U.S. Marshals Service said as part of Hargus’ sentence, he was required to register for the rest of his life as a sex offender.

According to federal officials, the search for Hargus has spanned three years. The U.S. Marshals Service said the last sighting of Hargus was in El Paso, Texas. He is reportedly aware of the search and is allegedly eluding law enforcement.
