FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The operators of Hog Lick Aggregates have launched a feasibility study into developing a microgrid and data center on their Marion County property.
The proposed future development would support Gov. Patrick Morrisey’s 50 X 50 plan and bring jobs, tax revenue, and infrastructure upgrades to the area.
The preliminary study will examine different designs and methods to cool and power while exploring ways to minimize the impact on the environment.
The HLA study will explore the feasibility of using geothermal cooling options rather than fresh water.
Company officials said a data center in Marion County could support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) supercomputing facility being assembled at the I-79 High Tech Park.
The company has no timetable for the project and is also interested in proposals to develop the site for manufacturing or commercial purposes. A potential developer would have access to on-site material for pad and access road construction.
