Charleston police identify body found floating in Elk River

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Police have identified the body found floating in the Elk River Saturday.

Investigators said Christopher Vandale, 36, of Charleston, was reported missing last Wednesday, three days before his body was spotted in the water near the Washington Street Bridge.

“Family members told investigators they had spoken with him by phone and that he appeared disoriented,” a CPD news release said. “Family also advised investigators that Vandale had an involved medical history. Investigators immediately began searching the area and attempting to contact him by phone.”

Police said they do not suspect foul play but an investigation is continuing.

Charleston police can be contacted at 304-348-6480.
