Fayette County man arrested for reckless driving, leading police on pursuit

FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. — A Fayette County man was arrested for reckless driving and leading police on a pursuit Saturday night.

Steven West (Fayette County Sheriff’s Office)

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said Steven West, 51, of Fayetteville, was charged with felony fleeing in a vehicle, in addition to misdemeanor offenses of failure to maintain control, failure to stay right, failure to signal, traffic signal violation, improper lane change, and reckless driving.

West allegedly ran a red light at the intersection of Court Street and Maple Avenue in Fayetteville Saturday evening. Authorities said West’s car almost hit a deputy patrol vehicle in that intersection.

West is accused of fleeing the scene with reckless abandon, driving into ongoing traffic and nearly causing a head-on collision while driving on U.S. Route 119.

Deputies said they stopped West’s vehicle going north toward the New River Gorge Bridge, and brought him into custody without incident.

West is being held in the Southern Regional Jail on $50,000 bail.
