CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The National Weather Service is now including more counties in a flood watch that’s been extended through Saturday evening.

The updated list of counties under the watch include Kanawha, Roane, Calhoun, Mingo, Logan, Boone, Clay, Braxton, Gilmer, Lewis, Harrison, Taylor, Upshur, Barbour, Wayne, Cabell, Mason, Jackson, Wood, Lincoln, Putnam, Wirt, Pleasants, Tyler, Ritchie, Doddridge, Marion, Monongalia and parts of Preston.
NWS meteorologists said “rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected in the vicinity of a front. Locally heavy rainfall could result in instances flash flooding.”
Information from the NWS Pittsburgh office said heavier rain was expected south of Parkersburg including a high probability of one inch of rain or more.
The latest model run shows the axis of heavier rainfall has shifted a bit further south. Here is a graphic showing the probability of exceeding 1 inch over the coming weekend. The best chance of exceeding 1 inch is southwest of the forecast area. pic.twitter.com/7p5H79hZC9
