PARSONS, W.Va. — A house fire, and possible explosion, in Tucker County has sent a woman to the hospital.
The incident was reported just after 9 a.m. in the 8000 block of Holly Meadows Drive in St. George. The Parsons Volunteer Fire department was first on scene and Chief Kevin White said there wasn’t much his crew could do.
“There was heavy fire everywhere. The house was fully involved and quite honestly most of the house was on the ground by that time,” White told Metronews.
Paramedics treated one patient, a female, at the scene and she was hauled to a nearby landing zone where HealthNet picked her up and took her to an area hospital. Her condition is not known.
There were reports from neighbors that there was an explosion at the home which started the fire. White said there was debris which would indicate that was the case, but it’s under investigation.
“There was debris scattered that would be indicative of an explosion, but that’s under investigation by the state Fire Marshal’s office. There was a report of an explosion by neighbors, but that’s unconfirmed at this time,” he added.
Even during the 9:00 hour, the heat index had exceeded 100 degrees and made it a difficult assignment for firefighters in full bunker gear. White said each fireman was on a mandatory 15 minute rotation and most were able to get through the heat without any issues.
Along with Parsons, fire crews from Davis, Thomas, and the Leading Creek VFD also responded to the scene.
