CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Jakai Harrison, age 20, of Charleston, is prepared to enter a plea agreement with the Kanawha County Prosecutor’s Office in connection with a shots-fired incident near Laidley Field while a track meet went on inside the stadium.
Harrison appeared briefly before Kanawha County Circuit Judge Tera Salango on Monday, and his attorney informed the court that an agreement was in place pending the review of video evidence later that day. Harrison was scheduled to stand trial on counts of wanton endangerment with a firearm this week.
A new hearing is set for 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday for Judge Salango to hear Harrison’s plea.
Charleston police stated the incident occurred around 12:50 p.m. on May 2 and determined that the shots came from a driver traveling east on Piedmont Road. Investigators identified Harrison in surveillance footage from a nearby business.
The track meet was cancelled, and no injuries were reported. Harrison pleaded not guilty to the charges on July 1.
