Charleston man enters plea for May shots-fired incident near Laidley Field

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Kanawha County man charged with firing shots near Laidley Field in May pleaded guilty Tuesday to one felony charge.

Jakai Harrison

Jakai Harrison, 20, entered a guilty plea to one count of wanton endangerment with a firearm in Kanawha County Circuit Court before Judge Tera Salango. He’ll face 1-to-5 years in jail when he’s sentenced Sept. 8.

Harrison was arrested for reportedly firing four shots from a gun while driving by the stadium at 12:50 p.m. on May 2. Charleston police said the shots came from a driver, alleged to be Harrison, going east on Piedmont Road outside the stadium.

After police responded to the stadium over the shots-fired report, the track meet that was going on at the time was canceled. No injuries were reported.

Harrison was initially charged with four counts of wanton endangerment with a firearm. Three counts were dropped as part of the plea bargain.

Harrison was set to stand trial this week, but his attorney told Judge Salango Monday that there was an agreement in place between prosecutors and the defense.
