Barrackville woman accused of abusing nursing home patient

MONONGAH, W.Va — A Barrackville woman has been arrested after being accused of slapping an elderly resident at a nursing home and knocking the resident out of a wheelchair.

Deputies were called to St. Barbara’s Nursing Home in Monongah back in May and spoke to an administrator who showed them surveillance footage of Desiree Heater, 34, assaulting the patient.

The video showed Heater slapping the patient in the wheelchair and walking away. Heater is then seen walking back and pulling the wheelchair quickly, causing the patient to fall forward out of the chair.

Heater has been charged with abuse or neglect of an incapacitated adult.

The patient was sent to the hospital to receive treatment, deputies said.

Heater is being held in the North Central Regional Jail.
