LESAGE, W.Va. — Cabell County Sheriff Doug Adams says the victims in a stabbing that claimed three lives and injured a fourth person involved relatives.

“It was a family,” Adams said during an appearance on MetroNews Midday Tuesday.
Adams said deputies responded to a call of a stabbing at just before 5 a.m. at a residence on Hickory Grove Road in Lesage near state Route 2. They found two women and a man dead and a second man injured.
No names have been released.
The initial call to 911 came from inside the residence. Adams said it was initially reported as one person being stabbed. The call was confusing, Adams said.
“It was just chaotic. It sounds like he may have had it on speaker phone and it was just hard. That’s a rural part of Cabell County and there’s not the best cell phone coverage out there,” Adams said.
Investigators with the sheriff’s office are working with state police on the crime scene. Adams said the man who was injured was treated at a Huntington hospital and had not yet been released.
Adams said what happened was a true tragedy.
“Out of 36 years this is one of the most horrific incidences I’ve been a part of,” Adams said. “They (the detectives) are going to work through the night to get this resolved.”
Adams said there was no threat to the public.
“It’s just a sad situation,” he said.
