GLENVILLE, W.Va. — The mayor of Glenville has resigned to become the new West Virginia Water Development Authority chief.

Mark Sarver, who became mayor in 2024, announced his resignation in a Facebook post Friday. He’ll now serve as the WV WDA executive director.
“Serving as your mayor has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” Sarver said in the post. “Together, we faced challenges, celebrated successes, and worked to lay a foundation for Glenville’s future. From infrastructure improvements and community development projects to public safety initiatives and new opportunities for growth, every accomplishment has been the result of dedicated employees, committed council members, volunteers, community partners, and citizens who believe in this remarkable community.”
Sarver said that he’ll continue his commitment to Glenville, even in his new role and the city “will always hold a special place” in his heart.
“While there is still much work to be done, our city has momentum,” Sarver said. “We have built partnerships, developed a vision, and positioned Glenville for opportunities that only a few years ago seemed out of reach. My hope is that the next mayor and city council will continue building on that foundation, because the future of Glenville has never been brighter.”
Sarver’s interim replacement as mayor has not been announced.
“The future is bright,” Sarver said. “Keep believing in Glenville. Keep investing in one another. And keep moving forward. It has truly been an honor to serve.”
