Police release names of Charleston crash victims; all 4 from Raleigh County

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Police released the names of the four victims Monday of a fatal wreck in the Capital City late Friday night.

Charleston police said four were young men from Raleigh County.

The four victims of the Saturday night crash are James McDaniel, 20, Colten Garcia, 20, Kaden Ashby, 21, and Kaiden Radford, 21. All are from Raleigh County and were killed instantly when the pickup truck they were in ran over the retaining wall on the elevated intestate at the I-77/64 split. The truck crashed 42 feet below in the Martin-Marietta gravel yard.

Charleston Police continue the investigation into the cause of the wreck.

“Our crash investigation team is working tirelessly to follow up on all leads of this crash,” Charleston Police Sgt. Travis Bailes said.

It is believed the four had just left the Jason Aldean Concert at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center. The location of the wreck meant they couldn’t have been on the interstate more than a couple of minutes.

Bailes said it’s a terrible tragedy.

“One person losing their life is huge but four at one time of what appears to be a great group of friends…it’s just a big tragedy but not just here but especially down in Raleigh County,” Bailes said.

It’s the third accident in that area of the interstate in a week and the second in which the vehicle went over the edge of the wall.
