Former Taylor County animal shelter owner pleads guilty to animal cruelty charges

GRAFTON, W.Va. — The former owner of a Taylor County animal rescue shelter has been arrested and faces animal cruelty charges.

Karen Anderson, of Flemington, former owner of Aaron’s Hope for Paws, has pleaded guilty to 20 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty.

Anderson was arrested back in April after multiple deceased cats in a shed, along with live cats that were in poor health were found on the property. Several other cats, dogs and birds, were found in Anderson’s home.

During a phone conversation with police Anderson said she was aware of the conditions at Aaron’s Hope for Paws but was unable to act due to a medical issue. She also told police she was too stubborn to ask for help.

Deputies said 58 dead cats were found on the property.

Anderson could face up to ten years in prison at sentencing.
